Before constructing a patio, pergola, retaining wall, fence, driveway or other outdoor improvement, Bloomingdale property owners should confirm the Village’s current building, zoning, engineering and inspection requirements.

Does Your Bloomingdale Project Require a Permit?

The Village of Bloomingdale advises residents who plan to install an accessory structure or make improvements to their home or property to contact the Building and Zoning Department before the project begins.

Village staff can help determine which building codes, zoning requirements, supporting documents and permits apply to the proposed work.

Submit a complete application: The Village states that all required documents must be included when an application is submitted. Partial application packages will not be accepted.

Outdoor Projects That Commonly Require Permits

The Bloomingdale Permit Process

1. Contact Building and Zoning Describe the proposed project and confirm which building, zoning or engineering requirements apply.

5. Complete plan review Village staff may evaluate the project for building-code, zoning, engineering, drainage, utility and right-of-way compliance.
6. Receive the permit before beginning work Do not begin permitted construction until the application has been approved, applicable fees have been paid and the permit has been issued.
7. Post the permit card and schedule inspections Display the permit card where it can be clearly seen and request each required inspection with at least 24 hours’ notice.
